A wake-up call that checks back

Your alarm gives up when you hit snooze. Fred doesn't.

Fred calls your phone at your wake time, talks with you for a minute, and calls back five minutes later to make sure you stayed up. Miss the call and he tries again.

Free while in early access. US phone numbers only for now.

The Wake the Fred Up app while Fred is calling: call 3 of 12, Fred stops trying at 7:30 AM, with a button to stop calling.

How it works

Three steps. Then you're up.

  1. 1

    Pick your wake time

One time for weekdays and one for weekends. Fred keeps trying for 30 minutes, then stops.

  2. 2

Fred calls and talks with you

He asks what's first on your day and has you say a random word. A sleepy "yeah" doesn't count.

  3. 3

    He calls back in five

Five minutes after you hang up, Fred checks that you're still up. Then he lets you get on with it.

A real phone call

Talking wakes you up in a way an alarm can't.

Fred is an AI voice, and he says so. He listens and answers what you actually say, so you have to think a little to get through the call.

  • Say "stop" or "leave me alone" and he stops for the morning.
  • No call audio is saved.
  • Works with your phone across the room.
  • Every call shows up in the app afterward.

Questions

Common questions

Is Fred a real person?

No. Fred is an AI voice. He says he's an automated wake-up call at the start of every call, and he only talks about getting you up.

What if I don't pick up?

He calls again every two minutes until your wake window ends, then stops. You choose the window.

Can it prove I'm awake?

No app can. Fred makes it hard to answer in your sleep: you have to talk, say a new word each time, and pick up a second call five minutes later.

Does it record my calls?

No call audio is saved. The voice provider deletes each call's transcript after one day. The app keeps a short note of each call, like "answered" and the word you said.

Will it work on silent?

It's a normal phone call, so it rings like any call. If you use Do Not Disturb, add Fred's number to your allowed callers.

Which phones does it work with?

Any phone that can get calls on a US number. You manage your mornings from the app or the web.
